Olukayode Olatunji Majekodunmi

Olukayode Majekodunmi is a dual-qualified lawyer licensed to practise in Canada and Nigeria. In Canada, Olukayode is licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario and has been called to the bar in the Province of Nova Scotia. He currently practises in Ontario, with a focus on immigration and refugee law, administrative law, criminal law, and civil litigation. With over 15 years of post-call legal experience, Olukayode brings a diverse and practical understanding of legal systems across borders, combining public sector insight with human rights advocacy and frontline legal representation.

Olukayode holds an LL.M. in Canadian Common Law from Osgoode Hall Law School, and an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law (cum laude) from the University of Notre Dame. He earned his LL.B. from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2004.

His immigration and refugee practice includes refugee protection claims, humanitarian and compassionate applications, Pre-Removal Risk Assessments (PRRA), deportation defence, sponsorship matters, inadmissibility challenges, and Federal Court judicial reviews. He also advises on citizenship and permanent residence matters and appears before the various divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board.

In administrative law, Olukayode represents clients before tribunals including the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Consent and Capacity Board, advocating on issues of procedural fairness and statutory interpretation. His criminal defence work includes bail hearings, trials, and appeals on summary conviction matters.

Before moving to Canada, Olukayode served as Deputy Executive Director of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), where he led major anti-corruption and human rights accountability initiatives across Sub-Saharan Africa. He also served as State Counsel at the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, where he was actively involved in criminal prosecution, civil litigation, and government legal advisory services. In this role, he represented the state in high-stakes litigation and gained invaluable experience in public interest and constitutional litigation.

Olukayode is known for his rigorous legal analysis, persuasive advocacy, and unwavering dedication to client service. He is fluent in English and Yoruba, and is particularly committed to serving immigrants, refugees, and vulnerable populations through empathetic and strategic legal representation.
